Langan’s

London’s iconic Langan’s brasserie has been a cornerstone of opulent dining and hedonism for nearly five decades. The Mayfair institution, opened by Peter Langan in 1976, has seen everyone from Michael Caine to the Rolling Stones pass through its doors.

THE BRIEF

In October 2021, esteemed restaurateurs Graziano Arricale and James Hitchen took ownership of the business, breathing new life into the brasserie. Every detail of the interior design had been carefully considered, from the impressive collection of artworks, to the beautiful art-deco furnishings and the luxurious velvet-covered lounge bar.

They needed an atmosphere to match, commissioning Altaura to design a series of custom playlists for the space, a soundtrack that would reflect both Langan’s rich past and its exciting future to come.

THE WORK

Working with Altaura, an agency specialising in music curation for brands and spaces, we developed custom playlists to soundtrack a guest’s journey through dining to dancing.

Playlists are carefully curated to soundtrack each period of the day, from breakfast through to late night cocktails. By spending time in the space, understanding its clientele and the rich history of the brasserie, we were able to develop a signature sound that’s contemporary in feel whilst also giving subtle nods to the past.

In the restaurant, music from modern-day artists is combined with touches of classic French sophistication and 70s London swagger. Upstairs, disco hits and deeper gems are woven with contemporary dance tracks for a fun and playful atmosphere.

THE RESULT

Using the playlists I developed with Altaura, Langan’s are able to offer their diners a comfortable yet convivial atmosphere, which increases spend and ensures repeat traid. In the words of General Manager, Samuel Bernard:

“Altaura bring an unrivaled catalogue of music... They understand who we are, and encompass that into our brand sound... Every beat breathes life into our spaces”
